Namibian wilderness
Namibia’s fauna - broaden your animal horizons
The vast Namibian wilderness areas are home to the earth’s biggest concentrations of all sizes mammals, including unique desert-dwelling rhino and elephants, vast herds of antelopes, giraffes, zebras, and large predators like lions and leopards. This richness of wildlife comprising over 200 species of mammals can be attributed in large part to a deep commitment to nature conservation.
About 4.5% of Namibia’s 1,066 known species are endemic, meaning they occur nowhere else in the world. Namibia is also home of 676 bird species, 13 of which are endemic.
This high level of endemism gives Namibia’s conservation of biodiversity a global significance.
